Praia da Aguieira sits on the Porto do Son side of the Ria de Muros e Noia, a long C-shaped beach of white sand and dunes with a launch area big enough to rig on even at high tide. Northeast is the wind, side-onshore, best under high pressure, and both thermal and frontal NE turn up here.
The water is shallow and runs from flat to choppy with small waves; in strong NE the chop builds to about 1 m. Kite conditions are not tide-dependent, which in Galicia is worth planning around.
It is safe enough for practice and lessons, and it is one of the Rias Baixas spots northern Galician riders use regularly, but it is no expert wave spot: advanced sessions here mean stronger wind and chop, nothing more. May to late September is the documented window, though locals ride it year round.
The thing to plan for is people, because from June to August you share the water with swimmers, and no dated municipal kite rule was found to tell you where you may launch.

Indicative, no local measurement and no rider survey. Against the 10-35 knot range on record, a 75-85 kg rider covers the ordinary May-to-September northeast day on 9-10 m. Drop to 7 m once the nortada is properly up, nearer 25-30 knots.Light early-summer mornings want 12-14 m or nothing at all.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rider tips

  • Watch for a high-pressure NE forecast; that is the setup that fills in.
  • Bring at least a sealed 3/2 mm wetsuit, because the water is cold even in summer.
  • Rig at low tide if you want more sand, since low water opens up the beach.
  • Give swimmers a wide berth in June, July and August.
  • Confirm current beach zoning locally before launching, because no formal kite rule was found.
