The coastline runs WNW to ESE, from Torre Astura down to Circeo, so the beach faces roughly southwest.Libeccio from the southwest comes straight in, onshore, and is what builds the wave. Ponente from the west is cross-shore with an onshore lean. Maestrale from the northwest crosses the beach with an offshore component, which is where the summer gustiness comes from. East blows off the dunes, plainly offshore. Southeast runs down the beach from the Circeo side, and whatever its angle it is the direction the spot does not work in.

The summer thermal Ponente runs about 10-14 knots and reaches 16-18 on the better days, which is the wind the schools work in. Frontal Maestrale behind an Atlantic depression is a different spot entirely: one July W/NW event ran 25-30 knots with waves around 1.5 m. No long-term measured average exists for this beach.

Wide sandy dune beach, and the two names cover two different beaches on the same coast. Spiaggia della Bufalara is the Sabaudia end, at Bella Farnia; Foce Verde is about 13 km up the coast at Lido di Latina near Borgo Sabotino.Entry pointsAlong Foce Verde the entries are picked by wind angle and by the clock: the Bar New Caledonia car park in the afternoon, Bar Alta Marea in the evening, Banana Beach by the Enel plant when the wind swings north. Bufalara is the quieter, thinner option, NNW being the direction usually named for it.

- Read the wind angle first, then pick the entry: Bar New Caledonia, Bar Alta Marea and Banana Beach are the reference points along the bay.
- In summer, turn up for early afternoon; the W thermal runs from then to sunset.
- Treat a strong Maestrale after a Libeccio or Scirocco swell as an advanced wave session, not a school day.
- Find the active kite corridor before you rig in bathing season: the corridor is at least 30 m wide at the beach, widens to 80 m at 100 m out and is marked to 250 m, one kite at a time through the first 100 m, with open riding only beyond 500 m from shore.
- Stay off the river mouth and the breakwaters, where the current and the shore-break are.
- Skip an E or SE forecast entirely and drive somewhere else.
- Read the wind angle first, then pick the entry: Bar New Caledonia in the afternoon, Bar Alta Marea in the evening, Banana Beach when the wind clocks north.
- Bufalara and Foce Verde are 13 km apart, not two names for one beach. Check which one a forecast, a lesson booking or a friend's session is actually about.
- There is nothing shallow to fall back into. The shore break can exceed two metres and there are rock pinnacles just off the sand, so plan the exit and the return before you launch.
