The spot

Kitesurfing at Torre Guaceto means the Apani/Punta Penne bay just south of the protected zone, near Brindisi. Sandy bay with a sandy bottom, standing depth for the first few metres, water that runs flat to choppy with medium waves when it blows. Not tidal.

Wind and hazards

Wind is mostly 12-28 knots. Three small islets sit offshore inside the bay and there are reef patches around it, so know what is under you before you ride downwind of the club.

Reserve regulations

The bigger constraint is the reserve: activity has to be authorized, school sailing is banned in Zones A and B and allowed in Zone C only with permission, marked water and a launch channel. Summer wind is constant and club services run May to October, which is why it gets called an easy place to learn; it also gets rated intermediate with expert appeal, and the launch is narrower than the size of the bay suggests, so beginners belong here with a school rather than on their own.

Rescue

The kite operations on the beach run their own rescue cover in season. There is no public kite-rescue boat, and outside the club season nobody is watching the water. Reserve rules allow an authorized motor support boat for school sailing activity in Zone C.

2026: Torre Guaceto reserve rules state activities in the marine protected area must be regulated and authorized by the managing body; school sailing activity is forbidden in Zones A and B and allowed in Zone C only with authorization, identified water areas, buoys and a launch channel.

Navigation rules allow sailing/rowing/pedal/electric navigation in Zone C, prohibit navigation in Zone A, and restrict Zone B from sunset to dawn.

Confirm the current Zone C launch channel and the authorized riding water before you enter the marine protected area.
Go through the club or a school if you do not already know the Torre Guaceto zoning.
Expect a narrower launch than the size of the bay suggests, and rig on the grass by the club when the sand is tight.
Advanced riders: the waves are upwind of the school zone, and the islets and reef patches are the first thing to check.
The islets sit about 700 m out, which is close enough to be a marker and close enough to be a problem in a north wind.
Bring wave or convertible gear if you are coming for the sets; the flat days do not need it.

From Brindisi airport follow directions toward Bari, then after about 12 km exit for Apani/Punta Penne and continue to Torre Guaceto.
