Yalong Bay is a crescent of resort beach in Jiyang District, Sanya: warm water, fine sand and a wall of hotels behind it. It is a kitesurfing spot, usually rated beginner-friendly, and the water is chop rather than a flat-water training lagoon.

Wind Reliability

What separates it from Sanya Bay is the angle. The useful wind is directly cross-shore and turns cross-on as the sunny-day thermal builds off the surrounding mountains, while cooler, cloudy or northerly flow is spoiled by the same terrain, so wind reliability is the weak part of the deal.

Crowding and Alternatives

The beach is busy with sailing, kayaks, surfboards, jet skis, diving and family resort traffic, so launch space and keeping clear of swimmers are daily problems rather than details. Come for warm water and a supervised freeride or lesson day when the forecast lines up, not for Hainan's strongest or most established kite base. Cheaper beds sit outside the bay in Sanya and Houhai.

Sanya regulations

2021 Sanya water-tourism project promotion and management measures: commercial water-tourism operators in Sanya waters must hold business registration and post-event filing, must work inside planned sea areas, and must meet safety, training and qualification requirements.

A March 2023 Hainan provincial notice adds that managed beaches and hotels must keep bathers inside the marked swimming area and staff enough certified lifeguards, and that unmanaged beaches must post no-swimming signs.

The bay openly permits sailboats, kayaks, surfboards and jet skis on its official tourism listing, but no 2026 Yalong Bay kite-specific permit, zone or prohibition was found either way.
