Standing depth
No measured figure. The gradient is very gentle - each low tide uncovers up to 600 m of firm sand - so on a falling tide you walk a long way before it gets deep. It is not shallow everywhere: the southern end has pozones, deeper pools, and restinga shelves that the lifeguards warn about.

What the guards work to: they read the sea state, the drift and the wind every morning to decide which flag goes up, and they warn about the restingas and the pozones at the south end of the beach.Inflatables are banned outright on west-wind days because the offshore takes them straight out - the same mechanism that matters to a kiter who goes down. Bathers are told to stay waist-deep.

The priority kite sector is between bajadas 28 and 30, down to the low-water line; outside it you are restricted.The Asociacion Austral de Kitesurf's own ground sits at bajada 30, at the far end of that sector.The sand is firm and can be enormous at low tide, but rigging is only allowed with at least 30 m of beach between the tide line and the coastal wall, and never on the rambla.

- Look at the direction before the strength: anything from the west is offshore here, and it is the reason this beach is not a beginner's.
- Rig only between bajadas 28 and 30, on the sand and never on the rambla; that is the priority kite sector and outside it you can be fined.
- Check the tide before you drive down: rigging is only legal with 30 m of beach between the tide line and the wall, and at low water the sand runs out 600 m.
- Message Asociacion Austral de Kitesurf before a first session; they will tell you which directions the locals ride and put you with a certified instructor.
- Bring winter rubber whatever the month: August water is 7-8 C, and summer averages are still only around 14-15 C.
- Do what the lifeguards say through 15 March; the ordinance lets them close or move the kite zone on weather, bather numbers or tide.
- Know where the cover ends. The guarded beach runs bajada 2 to 28 and the kite sector starts at 28, so from the moment you rig you are past the last base.
- The second half of the day is usually the stronger half: the wind firms from early afternoon and holds into the evening, and it can blow all night.
