Kitesurfing in Zanzibar North
2 spots · 1 destination · 4 schools
Nungwi, at Unguja's northern tip, trades Paje's big tidal swings for water that stays close to shore most of the day - though reef, depth and wind-angle complexity still put it more in intermediate territory.
Matemwe, quieter on the northeast coast, is fully tide-driven: the reef flat goes shallow or dry at low tide while a reef about 700 metres out holds the wave. Trade wind runs both, strongest June through September.
Zanzibar North holds 2 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 1 destination. Riding here is mostly lagoons. The season runs June to October. 1 of them suits beginners. 4 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Nungwi.
