Kitesurfing in Illinois

2 spots · 1 destination · 2 schools

Montrose Beach is Chicago's only legal kite launch, wedged into Uptown on Lake Michigan, and it runs on rules rather than open access: PASA or IKO certification, a check-in, self-launch and self-rescue, and mandated separation from swimmers.

It suits intermediate and advanced riders from May through October; nobody's teaching beginners here without a permit.

Illinois holds 2 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 1 destination. The season runs May to October. 1 of them suits beginners. 2 schools operate in the region.
