Wind on the beach

- Baia Grande, Bacino Grande and Torre Chianca north of town run on S to SE.
- In summer the daytime breeze at the beach is usually offshore, which is one more reason the season is a winter one.

- 2026 bathing-zone restrictions: from 1 May to 30 September, the Gallipoli Coast Guard ordinance reserves the first 200 m from beaches/low rocks and 100 m from high cliffs for bathing unless otherwise designated; kitesurf/windsurf transit is only via authorized launch/landing corridors at maximum 3 knots.
- Summer beach starts are effectively out: the bathing ordinance reserves the water and the beaches are full.
- Marine protected area rules and zoning apply: Zone A is an integral reserve, closed to everything but scientific work, and Posidonia meadows are protected along this coast.
- Rocky/stony bottom and reef areas, especially outside/in Baia Grande and around La Strea in places.
