Rider reports1What it costs and what fits
- Fee
- INR 2,000 per equipment per passenger per journey (domestic sector), INR 3,500 (international sector), inclusive of taxes, when pre-paid online via the Sports Equipment Handling Fee add-on.
- Lower figures of INR 1,200/2,500 circulate for a similarly named 'special baggage' fee;
- the Sports Equipment Handling Fee is the one that applies.
- Pieces
- up to 3 items of sports equipment per passenger per journey
- Pre-booking
- Not mandatory - the handling fee can be pre-paid on goindigo.in at booking or any time until 2 hours before departure (INR 2,000 domestic / INR 3,500 international, 2026); otherwise the airport rate applies (INR 2,500 / INR 4,000). Not available on ATR aircraft or on 'Lite Fare' tickets
- Booked ahead
- The pre-paid online handling fee is the only way to book this service at the stated rate; equipment weight still counts toward, and can trigger, separate standard excess-baggage charges on top
- Small aircraft
- The Sports Equipment Handling Fee service is explicitly NOT available on IndiGo's ATR aircraft, and not available to passengers on 'Lite Fare' tickets - both are common traps since IndiGo's ATR fleet serves many regional Indian routes.
- Filed as
- Sports Equipment (pre-paid handling fee add-on) - IndiGo's dedicated page covers 'skiing equipment, golf bags, bicycles, surf boards, snow boards, water skis and scuba diving equipment';
- kiteboards are not separately named but fall under this same paid-handling bucket as the closest matching category.
- Home region
- India
- domestic INR 2,000 per equipment per passenger per journey
- international INR 3,500 per equipment per passenger per journey

Before you pack
3 points
- Check your specific IndiGo flight's aircraft type before booking the sports equipment add-on - it is void on ATR-operated routes and on Lite Fare tickets, both frequently used on shorter Indian domestic sectors
- Pre-pay online in advance; the fee is non-refundable, non-cancellable and non-transferable, so confirm your flight plans are firm first
- The handling fee doesn't cover weight - a heavy kite quiver can still trigger IndiGo's separate per-kg excess baggage charge (~INR 600/kg) on top of the INR 2,000/3,500 handling fee
What riders report at the counter
1 report
- IndiGo is strict on overage: passengers are charged even for 1-2kg over the limit, at INR 600/kg. Kite gear runs heavy.
