Before you pack

3 points

  1. Notify Turkish Airlines of kitesurf equipment before departure (advance notification is required, not optional).
  2. Kitesurf gear has its own tariff line distinct from surfboard/windsurf pricing -- declare it specifically as 'kitesurfing equipment', not as a generic oversize/surfboard bag, to get the lower kite-specific rate.
  3. A promotional exemption (one windsurfing item free within checked allowance) applies to/from Denpasar, Jakarta, Male and Manila through 31 Dec 2026 -- check whether it has been extended to kite gear on your route.

What riders report at the counter

2 reports

  • The exact length cap is unclear to riders — 158 cm is the figure that circulates — and staff interpretation of the surf/kite bag rules varies by check-in location.
  • Overweight surcharges run roughly EUR 10/kg over the limit, enforced inconsistently airport to airport — one rider was hit with a surprise high charge at a connecting airport with the gear inside the normal checked-bag weight.
