Guanacaste runs two distinct wind machines: Tico Wind, on Lake Arenal's western end, is freshwater lake chop funneled to expert strength by the surrounding mountains, rated for experienced riders only.
Down on Bahía Salinas, Playa Papaturro and Playa Copal share a protected, shallow, side-onshore bay with no shorebreak that supports real beginner lessons, though January-to-March days turn strong and gusty. Both run the same NE trade season, November into spring.
