Kitesurfing in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

6 spots · 2 destinations · 3 schools

Six lakes south and east of Grenoble run on thermal wind that builds through the day and can die just as fast — Lac de Monteynard's alpine reservoir, Lac du Bourget's Cap des Séselets riding the long north Bise, Lake Annecy's Bout du Lac and Plage d'Albigny, Excenevex on Lake Geneva.

None of it teaches beginners: irregular gusts, deep water close to shore and crowded launches push every spot here into intermediate-plus territory.

Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes holds 6 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 2 destinations. Something is rideable here in every month of the year. 3 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Savoie and Haute-Savoie.
