Kanagawa's Shonan coast runs three distinct scenes: Miurakaigan on Tokyo Bay is the accessible beginner base, with MKSURF and Long Island teaching on deep, low-wave water five minutes from the station.
Chigasaki's Nishihama beach and the Enoshima/Kamakura beaches around the Katase river mouth trend intermediate, busy with surfers and swimmers, with typhoon season bringing the biggest swell.

ChigasakiShonan Coast20262026: the city asks you not to enter the official swimming beach with a surfboard, SUP or similar during beach-opening hours, and surfing is prohibited inside the bathing area; the official beach season is the first Saturday of July through August 31. 2023 rulebook update: respect the mapped no-running, caution, slow-speed, port entry/exit and shared-fishery zones, keep to 5 knots or less in the marked slow area off the sandy beach, do not approach working fishing boats or come within about 150 m of their nets, and discuss any event on the beach or the water in advance with the listed authorities.
MiurakaiganMiura Peninsula2026has a date window2026: the Miura Kaigan swimming beach runs 18 July to 30 August, 9:00-17:00, with a lifeguarded swimming zone; the city publishes a beach-rules sheet for the season, and marine sports in general are reportedly not allowed at Miura Kaigan while it is open.
