The spot

Miurakaigan is a Tokyo Bay-side kite and wing beach on the Miura Peninsula, about 5 minutes on foot from Miurakaigan Station. MKSURF and Long Island both work this beach, so it is a managed teaching and freeride beach rather than a name on a list.

Water and wind

The riding is open-bay flat to chop with few waves, but the water is deep off the beach and there is no standing area to walk out on. The useful winds are seasonal and side-shore: south in spring and summer, north in autumn and winter, with the windier stretch running late October to early May and August the lightest month.

Seasons and restrictions

Summer brings the warmest water and full beach facilities, and it is also the official swimming-beach season, when the 2026 public beach rules prohibit marine sports. Where an independent kiter may launch inside that window is not written down anywhere public, so go through one of the shops before you turn up, especially around the edges of the beach season.

The Miura station's 1991-2020 normals put monthly mean wind at 2.6-3.3 m/s, about 5-6.5 kt, windiest in March and April and lightest in November. That is a land station and it understates the beach, but the shape holds: March and April are the strong end of the year, and September through November, not August, is the flat end.

Generally side-shore on the main seasonal north/south patterns; average wind is seasonally stronger from late October to early May and lightest in August. Exact gustiness at the kite launch is unconfirmed.

Rescue

The local kite school keeps a rescue setup for its own customers; there is no municipal, public or paid rescue for independent kiters.

Lifeguards cover the swimming zone only while the official beach season is running - 18 July to 30 August in 2026, 9:00 to 17:00. Sea accidents go to 118, the Coast Guard emergency number; 119 for ambulance. The water is deep with no bank to walk in on, so self-rescue and a worked-out body-dragging plan matter more here than at a shallow spot.

Do not plan Miura as a shallow beginner lagoon. The water is deep off the sand, so body-dragging and self-rescue matter more here than the forecast does.
Take the Keikyu train from Tokyo or Haneda and walk the 5 minutes from Miurakaigan Station; the shops are the same walk.
Bring or rent a thin wetsuit even in summer if you chill easily. Wind on wet skin gets cold fast on this beach.
Aim at March and April, the windiest months on the local station's own record, and expect November to be the flattest.

By train, take the Keikyu network to Miurakaigan Station and walk about 5 minutes to the beach.Shinagawa to the beach is about 70 minutes by Keikyu; Haneda to Miurakaigan runs around 80 minutes depending on the connection.By car, come off the Yokohama-Yokosuka Road onto the Miura Jukan Road, out at the Kouenbo exit, then about 10 minutes; the Kinugasa IC / Lin IC route also works, with parking at Shimoura Kaigan or the nearby paid lots.
