Anakao fronts Nosy Ve with a large turquoise lagoon for freestyle and beginners, plus hollow left-hand reef waves outside on 15-25 knot side-onshore trade wind, June through November. Ifaty, north of Toliara, runs on thermal wind instead and keeps its reef break about 5 km out, with a local school working the lagoon side.
