Kitesurfing in Erongo
4 spots · 1 destination · 2 schools
Four spots, and one of them is why people fly here.
Walvis Bay Lagoon sits behind the Pelican Point spit: waist-deep flat water, a big grass rigging area, a marked upwind zone for beginners, and a thermal that starts around 14:00 and blows to nightfall, 17-35 knots from November to April. The rest is cold ocean. Swakopmund Rivermouth breaks over an offshore reef that goes shallow at low tide, and Vineta Point is reef waves off the Vineta streets with a launch a crowd would ruin. Donkey Bay is the kite name for Skeleton Bay: cross-offshore, and it can reach 45 knots.
Erongo holds 4 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 1 destination. Riding here is mostly waves and lagoons. The season runs August to December. 1 of them suits beginners. 2 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Walvis Bay.
