Kitesurfing in Frisia

6 spots · 1 destination · 10 schools

Frisia splits into two kinds of water: sheltered IJsselmeer lake bays at Makkum and Workum, shallow and flat enough that schools teach here from October through April, and the open Wadden/North Sea beaches on Terschelling, Schiermonnikoog and Ameland, where tide windows and current do the filtering.

Lauwersoog only rides in a two-hour bracket either side of high tide. Six spots, one lake for learning and four sea coasts for everyone who's moved past it.

Frisia holds 6 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 1 destination. Riding here is mostly flat water, waves and lagoons. Something is rideable here in every month of the year. 3 of them suits beginners. 10 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are IJsselmeer - Workum/Makkum.
