Workum
Workum sits on the eastern IJsselmeer shore in Friesland, between two protected nature reserves, and is one of Europe's busiest flat-water kite spots. An exceptionally long, waist-deep shallow shelf extends 200m+ from shore before the lake turns deep, drawing huge numbers of schools and freestyle/foil riders.

Monthly wind statistics
Station: Stavoren (windfinder.com, ~11 km) — Windfinder's own Workum / IJsselmeer-Workum pages have no statistics table. Used Stavoren, ~11 km down the IJsselmeer shoreline (windfinder cites 10.6 km from the Workum page's own nearby-station list) - same lake, same general fetch, reasonable proxy for the Workum/Makkum stretch. Annual averages: 12 kn, WSW, gusts 17 kn, daytime 12 C / nighttime 10 C. Monthly Bft-probability/speed chart is JS-rendered and could not be captured as numbers in this session.

Hazards
- Very crowded lesson zone in peak season
- Must stay 60m+ from shore when riding or jumping
- Sudden deep water beyond the sandbank
Rules
- Kite launching/landing only in or near the water
- Ride 60m+ from shore
- Stay within the yellow buoy-marked kite zone
- Never enter the designated swim zone
- Certified instruction only (IKO/KNWV/VDWS); lesson students wear colored vests; max 30 lesson kites aloft 1 Jun-1 Sep
Tips
- Foilers should walk out past the sandbank before riding, since it drops to deep water immediately behind it
