Koh Phangan's Ban Tai has a butter-flat lagoon behind an offshore reef good for lessons, while Chaloklum on the north shore only turns on when wind swings north to northeast, in a short season centered on the turn of the year. Koh Samui counters with Hua Thanon's shallow lagoon and reachable reef waves through the northeast monsoon, then Nathon on the west coast picks up the opposite southwest season, June to September.
