modelled
A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it, run over 2023-2024. Good for comparing one place with another, weaker for one beach.
Wind on the beach
- Depends where you stand on the beach.
- The NE trade blows offshore at the east end under Montana Roja and swings to almost sideshore towards the western end, so the working sector on a trade-wind day is the west side.
- A S to SW wind is side-onshore along the whole strand.
What the spot record warns about
- Protected Montaña Roja area right beside the beach: check the access rules.
- Protected Montana Roja reserve and dune habitat: use established access and do not drive or stage gear on sensitive ground.
- Wind-direction trap: NE trades are common regionally but can be offshore at the east end of La Tejita and only more sideshore farther west.
- Moderate surf, shorebreak, undertow and currents in bad sea states.
- Rocks reported to the south of the launch area.
- Water platforms/buoys and the La Tejita fuel anchorage infrastructure offshore should be avoided.
