modelled
A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it, run over 2023-2024. Good for comparing one place with another, weaker for one beach.
Wind on the beach
- Lo Pagan sits in the north-west corner of the lagoon, so the open water lies from south round to east.
- E and SE arrive onshore, NE and S run side-onshore to side-shore depending on which stretch of La Mota or Villananitos you are standing on, and W to NW blow straight off the land - which is why westerly days are the calm ones on this shore.
- The spring and summer SW thermal is side-offshore here, pushing you out into the lagoon rather than back to the sand, and N is offshore along the north shore.
- Read from beach orientation, not from a local wind study.
What the spot record warns about
- San Pedro del Pinatar bathing zones prohibit kitesurfing from 1 June to 30 September under the 2017 beach ordinance unless the activity is specifically authorized and signposted.
- Urban summer beach crowding at Villananitos and the town-side end of La Mota.
- Light and variable wind with many marginal/sub-12 kt days; risk of being underpowered away from shore.
- Environmental water-quality variability in the Mar Menor: algae blooms, eutrophication, and low-oxygen events have been documented in recent years, so check current local bathing/water conditions.
- Shallow sandy/muddy bottom; local guide warns fins can catch in mud or shallow areas.
- Beach furniture, swimmers, jellyfish nets, moored boats, promenade edges, and nautical channels can reduce safe usable space depending on exact launch point and season.
