La Llana is a 3 km strip of sand on the Mediterranean side of San Pedro del Pinatar, inside the Salinas y Arenales regional park. Riders come once the wind is properly established: the beach is exposed, side-shore to side-on, and the monthly average reported for the highlighted season is 21.2 kt.
The walk in is shallow and the water is standable at both high and low tide, though when the wind builds you get short chop and small waves near shore rather than anything to ride. February, March and May are the months that stand out. The catch is summer.
The 2017 San Pedro del Pinatar ordinance prohibits surf, windsurf and kitesurf in bathing zones from 1 June to 30 September, and the roughly 100 m nautical channel authorised here around 2013 was never reinstalled, so there may be nowhere legal to launch when the beach is busy.
Leave the offshore and strong side-off days alone: getting out is easy, getting back is the problem. Walkers use the park edges all year, and they are the reason most conflicts start.

Exposed beach. Riders turn up once the wind is well established; offshore and side-off make the return leg the delicate part.

The quiver, in words

No local quiver figures are published. Indicative, from the wind range the beach is ridden in: a 75-85 kg rider covers most days on 9 and 12 m, drops to 7 m on the strong gregal and lebeche days, and needs 14 m at the light end.

Direction to shore

The beach faces east onto the Mediterranean. Gregal from the northeast arrives side-on, an easterly is straight onshore, lebeche from the southwest blows side-off and poniente from the west is offshore. Read from the run of the coast rather than a published bearing.

Dominant direction

Gregal from the northeast, lebeche from the southwest and poniente from the west are the dominant winds on this stretch of coast. The arc the beach is actually ridden on runs SE through E to NE, with SW days also used.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

Standable at both high and low tide, over a shallow sand walk-in from the beach.

Tides

No marked Atlantic-style tidal range here and the spot is ridden as tide independent. Depth at the walk-in barely changes between high and low.

27.1°C summer · 14.3°C winter

Wetsuit

Shorts are listed for summer; shorty or normal wetsuit in spring and autumn; normal wetsuit in winter.

Currents

No current pattern specific to La Llana was found. Reading the day comes down to wind, crowd and residual swell rather than tide.

14–30°C water
Mediterranean beach inside the Salinas y Arenales protected area: 3 km of sand, a shallow walk in, chop and small waves. Water is flat and standable at high and low tide, but short waves and chop build near shore once the wind strengthens.

Launch

Large natural sand beach in the regional park, with room to rig but walkers, bathers and protected-area edges to work around. Road, foot and bicycle access, reserved-area parking, and approach from AP-7 exit 774 or N-332 via Avenida del Puerto.A roughly 100 m-wide nautical channel for windsurf, kitesurf and SUP was authorized here around 2013; the Beach Regulatory Council later declined to reinstall it on bather-safety grounds, and no currently marked kitesurf channel at La Llana was found.

Rules & access
2017 San Pedro del Pinatar beach ordinance: in bathing zones from 1 June to 30 September, surf, windsurf, kitesurf and related sea sports are prohibited to avoid risk to bathers. Where nautical channels or marked launch and landing zones are established, they must be used.
Leaving windsurf boards, sails and similar craft on the sand outside marked concession zones is prohibited.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Look on the beach for a marked nautical channel before launching between 1 June and 30 September; no current one at La Llana is confirmed.
  • Leave offshore and strong side-off days alone unless someone on the beach can come and get you.
  • Rig well back from the protected-area edges and the walking routes.
  • Come in on AP-7 exit 774 or N-332, then Avenida del Puerto toward the Puerto Deportivo and Las Salinas parking.
  • Shorts do in summer; take a shorty for spring and autumn and a full suit in winter.
