Thermal days follow a clean curve. Nights and early mornings are close to calm, the breeze fills in from around 11:00-12:00, holds its strongest hours between roughly 14:00 and 17:00, then fades through the evening. Winter S/SW frontal wind ignores the clock and can blow all night.

The spot

Es Trenc / Sa Rapita is a long south-Mallorca beach and dune system: white sand, clear shallow water, protected natural-park status. For kitesurfing it is an uncrowded off-season or shoulder-season option and not a normal summer kite beach. The wind that matters is S, SW or W, either the local Embat or a frontal system, and the day to drive down is the one when north-coast spots such as Pollensa are spoiled by offshore. Water runs flat to choppy, with a small shorebreak or wave sections when the onshore blows harder.

Beach conflicts

The problem is not the launch, it is beach conflict: riding near bathers is repeatedly warned against, and no official kite channel is published for 2026. Use Sa Rapita only when the sand is actually clear, stay out of the dunes and the protected ground, and check live wind, because no reliable Sa Rapita average exists.

Sa Rapita earns the drive on S and SW days when Pollensa Bay is side-off or offshore. A November session worked because the beach was almost empty, and November to mid-April is the low-bather stretch.

Park entry and areas

2026: Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos is a maritime-terrestrial natural park with free entry and no ticket or permit for ordinary beach use. The public areas are the first line of coast: the beaches of Sa Rapita, Es Morters (Ses Covetes), s'Arenal d'en Tem, Es Trenc and Platja des Marques, plus the public paths. Circulating behind the dune cordon or on private property without permission is not allowed. Official accesses are Sa Rapita, Ses Covetes, Colonia de Sant Jordi and the na Tirapel car park.

Permits for organized activity

2026: prior written authorisation from the park's managing body is required for sporting activity in the marine area carried out for profit or by organised groups of more than 20 people, and for organised group excursions of more than 40 people; a private rider or a pair of friends falls below that threshold, and no kitesurf-specific rule exists.

Park rules

2026 park rules also ban camping, fires, loudspeakers and recorded music, driving vehicles, bicycles or horses on the beaches and dunes, walking on the dune system, uprooting plants and building stone piles; there are no bins inside the park, so rubbish goes out with you.

Dogs

2026: dogs are banned from the beach from March to October and must be leashed from November to February.

Marine protection

2026: anchoring is prohibited over Posidonia oceanica, Cymodocea nodosa, Zostera, maerl and coralligenous bottoms.

Kiting rules

2026: no Sa Rapita or Es Trenc kitesurf permit, kite channel or seasonal kite zoning is published by Campos or the Balearics, and the municipal beaches page carries no water-sports rule either.

Summer warnings

2018: the standing local rule of thumb is no kiting at Sa Rapita during the tourist season, and none at any hour when people are walking, sunbathing or swimming near the shore. 2025 warnings of no kiting in summer, and fines up to EUR 3000 (2025) for riding near swimmers, appear in no official text.

November to mid-April is the practical window: empty beach, no bathers to work around, and the low-pressure days that make the water interesting.
Launch from Sa Rapita and leave the rocky Colonia de Sant Jordi end alone unless you know it.
Treat May to September as effectively no-go unless a local authority or club confirms a legal, empty and separated setup that day.
On a S or SW forecast, check whether Pollensa and Alcudia are offshore before you drive south.
Rig and land well away from beach users; one accident here is enough to trigger wider restrictions.
Stay on the marked public accesses and never walk or rig behind the dune cordon inside the natural park.
Read live stations and the forecast instead of averages, because there is no usable long-term wind statistic for this beach.
Without a car, bus lines L508 and L518 reach Sa Rapita, and the far end of the beach is served from Colonia de Sant Jordi.
Off-season there is no beach service of any kind inside the park, no lifeguard, no hut, no water, so bring what you need and do not ride alone.

Drive from Palma or PMI via Llucmajor and Campos to Sa Rapita, park in the village and walk to the beach. Bus lines L508 and L518 serve Sa Rapita; Colonia de Sant Jordi, at the far end of the park, has its own line.The four official park accesses are Sa Rapita, Ses Covetes, Colonia de Sant Jordi and the na Tirapel car park.
