Essaouira's half-moon sandy bay is Morocco's best-known kite beach: a wide, shallow, soft-bottomed beach partly sheltered by the Iles Purpuraires, with a steady side-shore trade wind blowing almost every afternoon in season. It's the main teaching beach where most of the town's schools are based, suitable from first lessons through to freestyle.
