Hua Hin Beach
Hua Hin's long town beach is Thailand's most established kitesurfing destination and the closest reliable wind to Bangkok, drawing a large resident and expat kite scene with roughly ten schools along the sand. Two distinct wind seasons - a steadier NE monsoon in winter and a strong thermal breeze in spring - keep the beach going for much of the year, and it hosted the Kiteboarding World Cup in 2009.

Water

| wetsuit | boardshorts/rashguard year-round - warm tropical water |
| tides | large tidal swing: low tide (roughly May-October) exposes a long sandy beach, while high tide (roughly November-March) can submerge most of the usable beach; spring tides every ~14 days exaggerate the extremes, so the rideable window shifts with the tide table |
| standing depth | shallow close to shore, dropping off further out |

Monthly wind statistics
Station: Hua Hin Airport (Windfinder (observed station), ~~5 (airport is just south of Hua Hin town/beach) km) — Real, long-running observed station (~21 years, Jun 2005–Jul 2026) a few km south of Hua Hin town/beach. Nov-Feb (NE monsoon) show the highest wind readings in the 7-22kt bucket (though still modest, 2-13%) and calmest, most consistent light-wind conditions the rest of the year — broadly consistent with the batch's known_best_months (Nov-Apr). Overall Hua Hin reads as a light-wind station year-round (dead-calm 0-1kt bucket is 23-40% every month). Beaufort-≥4 probability not directly available (knot buckets only); raw buckets kept in wind_bucket_pct_0_1_7_22_34plus_kts. No water temperature reported.

Hazards
- shallow, choppy beach break close to shore
- crowded launch zones shared with swimmers and other beach users
- high tide can eliminate most rideable beach
Tips
- Plan sessions around the tide table as well as the wind forecast - high tide can drown the beach
- March-April is prime for thermal wind if you miss the winter monsoon window
- Base near the town-center/Hilton stretch for the easiest access to schools and gear rental
Travel basics
| airport | Hua Hin Airport (HHQ) has limited service; most travelers fly into Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK), about 200km away |
|---|---|
| getting there | 3-4 hour coach, minivan or train from Bangkok |
| accommodation | Wide range from budget guesthouses to resorts, roughly 500-4,000 baht/night |
| cost level | mid |
| no wind | Buddhist temples, night markets, golf courses, water parks, day trips to Bangkok |
