The spot

Mazirbe is a thin record for a real spot: a beach on Latvia's Livonian Coast southwest of Cape Kolka, with free parking on the sand and a downwinder to Kolka that riders actually run.

Sea state

The water is open Baltic, chop with small to big waves, so this is a wave and chop venue and not a training lagoon. The beach itself is small, and in June, July and August it has ordinary beach users on it.

2026: Mazirbe sits inside Slitere National Park, on the Livonian Coast. The 2016 Cabinet rules for the park require obeying the posted prohibition and warning signs, restrict tents, camps and fires outside designated or agreed places, and forbid using the public nature-tourism infrastructure against its signage.

None of it is kitesurf-specific: no Mazirbe launch zoning, permit or seasonal kite ordinance turned up for 2026.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Come by car; with kit on board, walking in is not a plan. A bus from Riga runs to Mazirbe twice a day, and buses from Kolka back to Riga run five times per day, which is what makes the downwinder finish workable.
