The spot

Plage de Mehdiya sits at the Sebou river mouth on the Kenitra coast, and it is a wave beach before it is a kite spot. Clean small-to-medium waves, a long rock jetty that throws a right-hander, beach-break peaks over shifting sandbars. Treat it as a check-the-day local session rather than a trip you book: it works when the NE fills in hard enough, and nobody has published reliable kite months or a wind threshold for this beach.

Conditions and hazards

Intermediate and up. There is no rescue service here, no kite zone and no normal kite size on record. Accounts disagree on whether the bottom is only sand or includes reef and rock, and pollution comes up as well, so look at the water before you rig.

Water temperature and crowds

Summer water is 21-23 C and winter 17-18 C, so a shorty covers most of the year and a full suit does the cold months. From June to September the beach fills with families and surfers, while the kite crowd stays small and local.

A real Atlantic tide, semi-diurnal, two highs and two lows a day. An average day runs from about 1.6 m at low water to 3.3 m at high; the recorded extremes are 0.3 m and 4.1 m, so a big spring moves close to four metres of water in and out of the Sebou mouth.The jetty right-hander is a low-tide wave, which is also when the most sand is exposed for rigging.

Currents

No current report for the kite launch has ever been published, but the mechanism is not subtle. A semi-diurnal range of roughly 1.7 m on an ordinary day, and up to about 3.8 m on the biggest springs, drains through the Sebou mouth alongside the training wall, so an outgoing stream running seaward along the jetty is the thing to assume until someone local tells you otherwise.Unconfirmed as a measured figure.

No kite rescue, no boat, nobody watching the water for kiters.

Under the 2026 Plages Propres programme Mehdia is one of the sponsored beaches and gets first-aid points, sanitary blocks, a designated local-authority area and lost-children arrangements for the summer season; that is the whole of the organised cover, and it is aimed at bathers.

Outside the season there is nothing.

Rider tips

Walk the jetty and river mouth before you rig; the wave sets up around hard structure.
If the beach is busy, go farther south of the village where the sand opens up and there are fewer beachgoers.
Ignore the airport wind average when you plan: the only spot-specific guidance is that the NE has to be strong enough.
Ask local surfers or a school about pollution, exposed rock and current on the day.
Work the tide. The jetty wave wants low water, and the outgoing stream at the Sebou mouth runs hardest on a spring.
NE is side-offshore here. Stay upwind of where you want to end up, and do not ride out on kit you do not trust.
