Porto Santo
Porto Santo is Madeira's low-lying, drier sister island, built around a single continuous 9km stretch of golden sand beach - the only sand beach in the Madeira archipelago. It sees a side-offshore N/NE wind that turns gusty over the cliffs and headlands in summer, and with no lifeguard or kite-rescue service on the beach it is considered a spot for confident, self-sufficient riders rather than beginners.
