Punta del Este

Uruguay's glamorous flagship beach-resort city, nicknamed the "Monaco of the South," on the Atlantic coast of Maldonado Department. Kiting here is open-water and more wind-dependent than the sheltered Laguna Garzón/José Ignacio lagoon nearby, so it functions more as a secondary or backup spot when conditions allow, in a city built around beach tourism rather than kiting itself.

Wind

season notesLocal kite operators note that Punta del Este (and Montevideo) can be ridden whenever wind reaches their practical minimum of around 15 knots, but conditions are less consistent than the dedicated lagoon base at José Ignacio.

Monthly wind statistics

Station: Punta del Este, Uruguay (Weatherspark (NASA MERRA-2 reanalysis), ~0 km) — Windfinder's punta_del_este_juventud windstatistics page could not be retrieved (live site 429'd on all attempts, JS-rendered app with no static numbers, stats API needs an undisclosed auth token). Used Weatherspark MERRA-2 reanalysis for Punta del Este directly as fallback -- Weatherspark shows notably flat wind speeds year-round here (11.8-12.4 mph every month) with little seasonal variation, unlike the batch's known_best_months=null, i.e. we had no prior seasonal expectation to compare against. No Beaufort-probability metric available from this source.
