Kitesurfing in Hainan
6 spots · 4 destinations · 4 schools
Bo'ao, on Hainan's east coast near the Wanquan River estuary, is the island's kitesurfing epicenter: the biggest cluster of clubs and riders, working a March-to-June monsoon season over shallow, reef-free water safe enough for training.
Winter sends riders north to Haikou's Holiday Beach and Sanya's Houhai, both working NW-to-NE monsoon chop from October to March; Wenchang's sheltered Gaolong Bay stays the beginner pick, and Dongfang's west coast is for self-sufficient riders only.
Hainan holds 6 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 4 destinations. Riding here is mostly flat water and chop. Something is rideable here in every month of the year. 4 of them suits beginners. 4 schools operate in the region.
