Kitesurfing in Piura
4 spots · 1 destination · 3 schools
Four spots on the same southwest thermal, which fills around midday and dies near sunset, so the mornings belong to the surfers.
Máncora is the base: open ocean, a sandy launch in front of town, a left off the point and rocks showing at low tide. Vichayito and Los Órganos are the wide sandy beaches down the coast, side-onshore, where the schools go when Máncora is light. Lobitos is the other thing entirely, a fast left over sand and rock with cross-off wind, a current that rips and a surf crowd already sitting on it. May to October is the strong stretch.
Piura holds 4 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 1 destination. Riding here is mostly waves. The season runs May to December. 3 of them suits beginners. 3 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Máncora.
