Kitesurfing in Algarve
18 spots · 2 destinations · 10 schools
Eighteen spots, and the flat water is all in the east.
The Ria Formosa holds four lagoons behind its barrier islands: Cabanas, Fuseta, Ilha de Faro and Fábrica below Cacela Velha, which is reportedly fin-deep even at high tide. Fuseta runs 12-25 knots on the afternoon thermal, March to October. West of Lagos it turns into wave coast. Martinhal near Sagres gives 18-25 knots of Nortada over flat to light chop from June to September, while Tonel around the point is gusty, rocky and advanced only. Amado and Bordeira on the Costa Vicentina are wave beaches and nothing else.
Algarve holds 18 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 2 destinations. Riding here is mostly lagoons and waves. Something is rideable here in every month of the year.
6 of them suits beginners. 10 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Algarve - Lagos/Alvor and Algarve - Fuseta/Olhão.
