Meia Praia
Meia Praia is a vast, open sweeping bay beach running east from Lagos marina, one of the largest continuous bays on the Algarve coast. Its wide sandy expanse and moderate Nortada winds make it a relaxed beginner/intermediate kite beach, calmer and more sheltered than the ocean-exposed spots further west, and distinct from the flatter Alvor Lagoon a short drive away.

Wind
| best months |
|
|---|---|
| season notes | Driven by the Algarve summer Nortada (thermal, builds through the day); light and unreliable outside May-September. |
| avg knots | 14-22 |
| wind name | Nortada |
| direction to shore | cross-shore to side-onshore (bay curves east-west so exact angle varies with launch point) |
| quality | thermal, generally steadier than the open-ocean west coast spots |
| typical kite sizes | 9-12m |
Water
| type | mixed |
|---|---|
| temp summer c | 21 |
| temp winter c | 15 |
| wetsuit | boardshorts/shorty Jun-Sep, 3/2 shoulder season |
| tides | large Atlantic tidal range exposes wide sandbanks at low tide; calmer, more protected water than the exposed Algarve headlands |
| standing depth | yes, shallow sandbank areas near shore at low-to-mid tide |
Levels
| beginner | yes |

| notes | Open bay with cliffs sheltering parts of the beach from the strongest wind and swell; good space for lessons and progression, less suited to wave riding than Guincho-type spots. |

Monthly wind statistics
Station: WeatherSpark modeled climatology at Lagos, Faro District (Algarve) (WeatherSpark (NASA MERRA-2 reanalysis, 30-yr modeled 'typical year'), ~0 km) — Windfinder search found dedicated pages for Lagos Ameijeira, Alvor, and Meia Praia/Lagos but these were not fetched directly this run due to persistent HTTP 429 rate-limiting on windfinder.com; used WeatherSpark's Lagos climatology instead (Meia Praia is Lagos' town beach, same coordinates essentially). As with Fuseta, this reanalysis climatology likely underrepresents the local summer Nortada thermal wind that makes May-Sep the known kiting season — the raw model shows winter storm wind as strongest, which is a synoptic (not thermal) signal. prob_ge_4bft_pct null.
