Aveiro runs on the Ria de Aveiro lagoon: Murtosa and Costa Nova hold the flat, shallow water where local schools teach, while Praia da Barra and the quieter Maceda beach take the Atlantic swell a few minutes away.
Summer Nortada from the north drives the whole system, May through September, with Barra's inside sections the usual step up from lagoon to wave.
