Arenal de Moris is an exposed 800 m cove on the Caravia coast that takes Cantabrian swell straight on the chin, and the kite call is W/NW Atlantic conditions. The kite information here is thinner than for La Espasa next door: no local kite club, no published wind climatology, no confirmed launch corridor.
What is documented is the beach, rated medium-risk, with paid parking and the usual services on the sand, plus shifting sand banks that build the surf peaks and the rip currents together. Advanced only, and that grade is caution rather than measurement. Autumn and winter are the consistent months.
In July and August the bathers and the lifeguard cover decide where you can go, and there is no written kite corridor to point at. Surf-friendly wind directions here are not the same as kite-friendly ones, so read the shore angle on the day.

Character

synoptic

W/NW Atlantic wave conditions on an exposed beach, which is advanced territory. The cleaner surf winds come from the NE and E, and from the SE, so the surf report's direction is not the kite direction.

Direction to shore

The cove opens to the Cantabrian. The winds that come off the land here are the NE, E and SE that surfers want for clean faces, which leaves the kiteable W and NW arriving cross-shore to cross-onshore with the swell behind them. That is exactly what makes the spot exposed.Indicative: derived from how the coast lies and from which quadrant blows offshore, not from an angle read on the sand.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Tides

Full Atlantic tide with four changes a day. Measured up the coast at Ribadesella rather than in the cove, an average-coefficient day moves about 2.5 m between high and low, and the recorded extremes span roughly 4.7 m. Low water uncovers far more sand than high water leaves you.The break itself holds shape at low, mid and high tide.

Temperature

19.3°C summer · 13.2°C winter

Rescue

Municipal lifeguards work the beach daily from 27 June to 31 August, with hazard warning signs posted on the sand. Outside those dates there is nobody. 112 reaches the Asturias emergency service, which runs maritime rescue and a medicalised helicopter and publishes a daily beach-status page; the town hall is on 985 85 30 05. No kite-specific rescue exists.

Launch

Shell-shaped cove of fine tan sand about 800 m long, with vehicle access, paid parking, toilets, showers, foot-washing points, a picnic area, accessible ramps and a campsite behind. A stream reaches the sea at the beach, and rounded rocks cover parts of the sand and get in the way of accessible routes. It is a windy beach with medium waves and a medium hazard rating.

Rules & access
2026: lifeguards work the beach daily from 27 June to 31 August. Caravia parking rules prohibit parking or overnighting campervans and similar vehicles in the beach parking areas and the beach-park perimeter. Animals are banned from the beach from 1 June to 30 September, and pets are allowed on the promenades only on a lead of at most 1 m and muzzled where required; the published notice carries no year. No kite-specific municipal rule and no bathing-season channel is confirmed for Arenal de Moris.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Treat Arenal de Moris as a wave spot, not a lesson beach.
  • Talk to the lifeguards before launching between 27 June and 31 August; no kite channel has been published.
  • Check La Espasa first when the NE is moderate and Arenal looks too exposed.
  • Do not borrow the surf report's wind directions. Stand on the sand and read the shore angle yourself.
  • Leave the campervan out of the beach parking; overnighting there is prohibited.
  • Look at the tide before you commit. An ordinary day moves about 2.5 m here and the cove is a different beach at low water than at high.
  • Leave the dog at home between 1 June and 30 September; animals are banned from the sand in those months.
