Side-on. The beach north of the cape runs north-west to south-east with the ocean to the south-west, so the dry-season flow comes in along the shore and pushes riders south toward the cape and the border beaches. The north-east morning phase is the offshore one and wants more care.

Long open-coast sand beach in the Cap Skirring/Boucotte area, huge at low tide, with launch and landing room on both sides of the cape.The kitecamp beach is north of the town, on the stretch running from the Hotel Maya beach up toward Diembering, and the natural line from there is south along the sand toward the cape and on toward the Guinea-Bissau border.

Rider tips
- Arrive at Le Papayer with a complete kit; there is no hire and no beginner instruction on the kitecamp beach.
- Book beginners through Hôtel Katakalousse with Oumar, minimum age 18, and expect to ride away from the kitecamp beach.
- Wait out the morning NE if it feels offshore or thin, and launch on the afternoon NW sea breeze instead.
- Rig at low tide for the space, then ask a local how the shorebreak and the current sit on that tide before you go out.
- Ride south along the sand toward the Guinea-Bissau border for open water, carry your passport, and drop any idea of an unsupported downwinder across it.
- Stay inside self-rescue range of a beach you can walk back from, because there is no rescue boat on this coast.
- In the rains, come in along the beach: a 15-minute walk north from the Hotel Maya beach, or a 4x4 booked with the lodge in advance.

The kitecamp is 10 minutes from Cap Skirring airport, about 1 hour by road from Ziguinchor and about 5 hours from Dakar via the Trans-Gambia route. Dakar-Cap Skirring return fares started at XOF 130,000 in 2026, subject to availability.Arriving at the ecolodgeArriving at the ecolodge itself, the dry-season route runs in across the rice paddies; in the rains the beach is the only way in, either a 15-minute walk north from the Hotel Maya beach toward Diembering or a 4x4 pick-up arranged by the lodge. The rice paddies are worked traditionally and access to them is regulated.
