Rider tips
- Get an assisted, Russian-style launch: the beach is too narrow and too rock-lined to self-launch safely.
- Watch your footing on the rocks downwind of the pier, where the sea urchins collect.
- Bring your own full kit and a riding buddy, because no school or rental outlet was found on Bequia.
- Walk over from J.F. Mitchell Airport, or take a local bus or taxi from Port Elizabeth.
Getting there
Airport
J.F. Mitchell Airport at Paget Farm, Bequia, sits right next to the spot and takes regional turboprops. Reaching Bequia from further afield normally means flying or ferrying via mainland Saint Vincent.
Route
Short walk from J.F. Mitchell Airport, or a local bus or taxi from Port Elizabeth. To reach Bequia itself, Bequia Express runs about 5 ferries a day from Kingstown on Saint Vincent, fewer at weekends.
Staying
Rental villas inside the private Moonhole community, let year-round through Moonhole Company Ltd, a mix of privately owned and company-owned houses. Otherwise Bequia's guesthouses and small hotels cluster around Port Elizabeth and Admiralty Bay.
No-wind days
Dive Bequia runs certification courses off the south shore of Admiralty Bay. There is also the walk up Mount Peggy for the island view, and Thursday evenings at the Frangipani bar on the harbour.
