The spot

Ngwe Saung is a long sand beach on Myanmar's Bay of Bengal coast in Ayeyarwady, 48 km from Pathein and commonly 5-7 hours by road from Yangon.

Kiting scene

Kiting here is real but thin: Ngwe Saung Yacht Club Resort has advertised lessons and water sports, and the beach hosted the 2015 Myanmar Wave Riders Cup and KTA Race Open with the Myanmar Yachting Federation. The riding is open ocean, not lagoon: shallow water, chop, small to medium waves.

Seasons

January, February, October, November and December are the best-supported months, the season is stretched through March in some accounts, and the SW monsoon from May to September blows stronger over a rougher sea.
