On the clock

14:00 · 17:00 · 18:00

Quiet overnight and at dawn, building from mid-morning, strongest between 14:00 and 17:00, then falling away after 18:00. The daily swing is worth about three knots in March and again in October. Indicative, from a reanalysis diurnal cycle, with no beach measurement to check it against.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

Plage de l'Argentiere is the big sandy beach at La Londe-les-Maures, open onto the Baie de La Londe with Giens to the west, Fort de Bregancon to the east and the Iles d'Or on the horizon.
It is a winter and shoulder-season spot by rule: the kitesurf and windsurf zone in the central section of the beach is open from 01 October to 31 May, and reportedly closed to kites for the bathing season.
The bay faces roughly south, so the two winds that matter, east and west, come through cross-shore to cross-on depending on which part of the beach you rig on, and both work.
How strong and how often is unconfirmed; there are no wind statistics for the bay itself, and the Almanarre numbers over at Hyeres do not transfer because the orientation differs.
The water is about 24.4 C in summer and 13.6 C in winter, so light neoprene while the sea still holds its summer warmth and a full suit from winter into early spring. There is free parking and there are toilets.
Nobody has written up the hazards, kite sizes or beginner suitability, so treat it as an intermediate spot on an open sea beach with waves when it blows, and ask at the Giens schools before you come.

fills in: Quiet overnight and at dawn, building from mid-morning, strongest between 14:00 and 17:00, then falling away after 18:00. The daily swing is worth about three knots in March and again in October. Indicative, from a reanalysis diurnal cycle, with no beach measurement to check it against.

Typical strength

Rideable strength is the exception here, not the rule. Indicative figures, from a coastal reanalysis grid cell rather than a beach station: from November to April about a quarter of all hours reach 12 kn, roughly one hour in seven reaches 15 kn and one in twelve reaches 18 kn. Anything over 22 kn is rare, a handful of hours a month in winter. Mean gusts run 16-17 kn through the strong half of the year and drop to 14 kn in August.

Well exposed, and both west and east wind work. Gustiness and reliability are unconfirmed; nobody has published station data for the bay.
The kitesurf zone is open from 01/10 to 31/05, outside the main bathing season, so the season here is the cold half of the year by rule as much as by weather.

The quiver, in words

No local rider reports exist for this bay, so these are derived from the wind range rather than measured. A 75-85 kg rider is on 11-12 m for the common 15-18 kn day, 9-10 m at 18-22 kn, and 8 m or less on the few winter days when an east or west system pushes past 25 kn.Under 13 kn it is a foil day, and that covers most of the calendar.

Direction to shore

On a generally south-facing bay beach, E and W are mostly cross-shore to cross-on depending on exact beach section.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rescue

VHF channel 16

Nobody is watching the water during the kite season. The Argentiere first-aid post is staffed in high summer only, every day including Sundays and public holidays from 11:10 to 18:15, from 2 July to 30 August (2026) - entirely outside the 1 October to 31 May kite window. Sea rescue is VHF channel 16 or 196 by phone.
The La Londe harbour office is on +33 4 94 01 53 45 and keeps an out-of-hours emergency line on +33 6 85 03 67 94.

Launch

Launch from the sand on Boulevard de la Plage de l'Argentiere, inside the kitesurf and windsurf zone in the central section of the beach. Whether there is a marked launch corridor within that zone is unconfirmed; there is no beginner sub-area.

Hazards riders report 8

  • reportedly closed to kites outside the October-May window
  • shared beach users
  • seasonal public-beach restrictions
  • open sea exposure
  • waves possible in windy conditions
  • no lifeguard cover during the kite season: the beach posts are staffed in July and August only
  • buoyed marine-ecology protection zone off the Pointe de l'Argentiere, closed to all craft
  • 300 m limit from shore for unregistered craft, and no riding after dark
Rules & access
2026: the Argentiere kitesurf spot is listed as open from 01/10 to 31/05 and free of charge. The 2024 municipal beach-police order bans kitesurfing (Planche Nautique Tractee) during the summer season and in particular for the whole period the buoyage plan is in place, and elsewhere defines the bathing season as 1 April to 31 October. Under that same order, unregistered beach craft may not go more than 300 m from shore and may not sail at night; they are barred from the bathers-only zones, from the port and rescue access channels and from the windsurf-reserved zones; speed inside the 300 m coastal strip is capped at 5 knots. The marine-ecology protection zone off the Pointe de l'Argentiere, marked by buoys and a float line, is closed to fishing and to every craft, registered or not.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Come between 01 October and 31 May; outside those dates the beach is for bathers and the kite zone is reportedly closed, unless a current municipal sign tells you otherwise.
  • Rig in the central section of the beach, where the kitesurf and windsurf zone is; look for markers before you set up on a busy day.
  • Do not read the Almanarre forecast as the La Londe forecast; the bay faces a different way, so check the Baie de La Londe separately.
  • Park at the free car park on Boulevard de la Plage de l'Argentiere; there are toilets but no school on the beach, the nearest are at Hyeres and Giens.
  • Wear a full suit from winter to early spring: the sea drops to about 13.6 C.
  • The first-aid post is shut for the whole kite season. Save 196 and keep channel 16 in mind before you go afloat on your own.
  • Stay off the buoyed ecology zone at the Pointe de l'Argentiere, the east end of the beach; it is closed to every kind of craft.
  • Plan the session for the afternoon: the wind builds from mid-morning and is strongest between 14:00 and 17:00.

FAQ

When is the best time to kite at Plage de l'Argentière?

The verified kitesurf window runs from 1 October to 31 May, outside the summer bathing season, which also keeps it quieter than the busy summer months.

What is the wind like at Plage de l'Argentière?

The beach faces the Baie de La Londe and is well exposed to both west and east wind, cross to cross-on depending on the section of beach. No gust or wind-strength data has been verified.

Is Plage de l'Argentière suitable for beginners?

No formal rider-level rating was found; it is treated as intermediate and above because it is an open public kite zone on a sea beach rather than a supervised beginner lagoon.

Are there kite schools near Plage de l'Argentière?

Two schools, MF Kite and KGG Ecole de Kitesurf, operate nearby in the Hyères/Giens area.
