Power Plant Beach is a sandy stretch on Kuwait's southern Gulf coast, south of the plant it is named after, between Mina Said (Suud) and Al Khiran. The water runs flat to choppy, with small waves when a stronger onshore wind builds, and there is a lot of room to lay out.
The drive from Kuwait City is about 100 km south, and a 4x4 helps if you want to get down onto the sand instead of walking in. 194 days a year reach 4 Bft and June and July are rated the two best months, but the monthly averages are 7-10 kt, so this is big-kite riding more often than not.
A long bridge sits at the north end of the beach and the power and desalination plant sits behind it, which is the thing to sort out before you drive: whether beach access beside the plant is still allowed in 2026 is unconfirmed.
This reads as an intermediate and up spot rather than a place to learn, and no rescue cover is confirmed.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Wetsuit

Shorts in summer; shorty in spring/fall; normal or 2/3 mm wetsuit reported for winter.

17–34°C water
Flat to choppy with small waves when a stronger onshore builds, which fits an open Gulf shoreline beside the power plant rather than an enclosed lagoon. A bridge sits on the north side of the beach. The 'lagoon' tag attached to this spot is unconfirmed: nothing about an enclosed basin or a sandbar shows up anywhere.

Your level

Intermediate and up, with advanced riders likely to get more out of it. Nothing published pins down a shallow section or a standing depth, so the beginner question stays unconfirmed.

Hazards riders report 4

  • The power plant and its industrial fence line sit right behind the beach: check access restrictions on the ground.
  • Long bridge on the north side of the beach.
  • Power and desalination plant works next to the launch, with the industrial area behind them; access is not guaranteed.
  • Extreme summer heat is reported for June through September.
Rules & access
2026: no kite-specific rule for this beach turned up, so country law applies. Check on the ground, because a permit, a membership or a closed gate beside industrial infrastructure will not be published in advance.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Confirm access before you drive out: the launch sits right beside the plant fence line.
  • Bring a 4x4 if you want to park on the sand south of the plant; otherwise expect a walk in.
  • Stay clear of the long bridge at the north end when the wind pushes you down the beach.
  • Treat June through September as heat sessions: water in the car, early or late, no midday walks.

Getting there

Airport

Kuwait International Airport (KWI), about 95 km from the spot.

Route
