Sakalava Bay

A ~5km2 reef-protected bay near Diego Suarez (Antsiranana) with a sandy bottom and side-onshore Varatraza trade wind that always blows riders back to the beach, making it one of the safest kite spots in the world. Wind blows on all but a handful of days across an 8-9 month season, combining flat water, reef waves and a sandbar walkable to two offshore islands at low tide.

notesThe Sandbank launch (north end) has the flattest, most mirror-like water; Fishermen's Village (south end) is gustier due to mangroves but hosts most of the schools.

Monthly wind statistics

Station: Antsiranana (Diego Suarez), Madagascar (Weather Spark, ~2.7 km) — Station is Antsiranana/Diego Suarez town, only ~2.7 km from Sakalava Bay itself - a good proxy, both inside the same bay system exposed to the SE Varatraza trade wind. windfinder.com/windstatistics/antsiranana_diego_suarez returned 'No statistical weather data available' on fetch; Weather Spark reanalysis-based average wind speed used instead, so prob_ge_4bft_pct left null. Data-derived windy season (May-Nov) matches the batch's known_best_months (Mar-Nov) reasonably, though this source shows Mar/Apr as still building rather than fully in-season.
