The spot

Kitesurf Beach Center is a paid private beach and kite school in Umm Al Quwain, north of Dubai, and the first certified kitesurfing school in the emirate. The water in front of it is shallow over sand, and the sheltered lagoon and mangrove flats along the coast are flatter still, so treat this as a flat-water and light-chop venue rather than a documented open-ocean wave spot.

Wind and season

Wind is the NW to N Shamal at 15-25 kt on the days it blows, with May and September the usual compromise between wind and heat; the season pictures for this coast disagree with each other and the center publishes no month-by-month figures of its own.

Lessons

Lessons run from first kite handling through upwind riding, then jumps, loops, unhooked moves; IKO-certified instructors teach them. Independent riders should phone first, because nothing published says if you may rig and launch without booking a lesson (2026).

Access and facilities

Access is not a free public beach either: entry is paid, outside food and drinks are refused, alcohol is prohibited. Come for a quieter, more organized alternative to Dubai: lessons and rental on site, plus showers and food behind the beach. Skip high summer, when the air goes over 40 C and the sea over 32 C.

On a 15-25 kt Shamal day a 75-85 kg rider covers the range with two kites: 12 m from 15 to 18 kt, 10 m around 20 kt, 9 m once it settles above 22 kt.Below 15 kt, which is most of the year here, the same rider needs 13-14 m to get going on flat lagoon water.Foil and wing riders take 1-3 m off those numbers. This band is derived from standard weight-to-wind sizing against the local 15-25 kt figure, not from a published local quiver.

Standing depth

The lagoon runs roughly 1-3 m over most of its area, so it is swimming depth rather than standing depth once you are properly out. The shallow ground is at the northern end of the lagoon near the UAQ Corniche, where it is knee-deep in places, and along the beach-center shoreline itself, which is shallow over sand.Nobody has published the tide level at which the lesson area becomes too thin or too muddy to use.

Tides

Tide runs this shoreline. Mangrove tours leave about 2 hours before high water, which is the only published timing rule for the shallows.Tide tables for Umm Al Quwain show a semidiurnal cycle with heights of roughly 0.4-2.0 m on late-August 2026 dates. A 2025 hydrodynamic model of the lagoon puts water levels lower inside it at low tide and the flow faster through the narrow entrances.

Usually boardshorts/rash guard; a thin shorty or neoprene top may help cold-sensitive riders in mid-winter mornings. Official lesson packing notes list swimsuit, rash guard or wetsuit, and board shorts or leggings.

Currents

Modeling puts most of the lagoon at calm water, with flow up to 1.6 m/s in the narrow western entrances (2025). Nobody has measured the current at the Kitesurf Beach Center launch itself.

Conditions

White sand and clear water in front of the center, with kitesurfers, rental paddleboards and kayaks sharing it. The lagoon and the Mikoko mangrove flats nearby add sheltered shallow water, but no published line separates the school's lesson area from the public beach and the mangrove tour route.

Ride the sheltered side and it is flat; go out to the open coast and expect light chop.

No rescue boat, jet ski or lifeguard is advertised. Cover for students during lessons is the only thing implied anywhere, and independent riders have nothing published to rely on.

The centre is staffed daily from 06:00 to 20:00, and to 22:00 on Thursday and Friday, and answers on +971 55 507 3060 - that phone is the realistic first call before and after a session (as of 2026).

Launch

Private beach-center launch on Shaikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu'alla Road, Al Raas/Al Medan, with the kite school on site and paid beach access at the gate. Lagoon and open-coast launches exist elsewhere around UAQ; this one is the school's own sand.

2026: Kitesurf Beach Center is a paid private beach and entry is walk-in, card only: AED 75 per adult Monday-Wednesday, AED 100 Saturday-Sunday, AED 150 for Ladies Day on Thursday and Friday, kids AED 45-75, pets AED 75 where they are allowed. Outside food and drinks are not allowed, alcohol is prohibited outright, pets need a vaccination card and a signed pet policy, and pets are barred on Ladies Day.

Hours and policies

2026 hours are 06:00-20:00 Saturday to Wednesday and 06:00-22:00 on the Thursday-Friday Ladies Day, so a session before opening or after dark is not on offer. Prices can change over UAE holidays and peak season. Nothing published says if independent riders may rig and launch without booking a lesson, and no municipal kitesurf zoning or permit rule was found.

Beach huts and camps can be booked at the center itself, and Casa Mikoko has rooms at Mangrove Beach/Khor Al Yeefrah. Hotels and guesthouses in UAQ cost less than the Dubai equivalent (2026).
