Kitesurfing in Abruzzo

9 spots · 3 destinations · 4 schools

Abruzzo's Adriatic coast runs on synoptic wind rather than reliable thermals, from Scirocco through Tramontana at 8 to 30 knots depending on direction.

Offshore rock breakwaters at Stazione di Tollo and Pescara's Portanuova flatten the water into something close to lagoon riding, while Fossacesia Marina works year-round and can throw a 15-18 knot spring thermal on its own. Casalbordino and Tortuga stay wavier and are rated intermediate and up.

Abruzzo holds 9 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 3 destinations. Something is rideable here in every month of the year. 4 of them suits beginners.

4 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Abruzzo — Francavilla Foro to Tortuga Montesilvano, Casalbordino & Fossacesia Marina and Spiaggia dei Saraceni & Stazione di Tollo.
