Casalbordino is a pebble beach on the southern Abruzzo coast, at Lido di Casalbordino, and it mostly works as the fallback when Fossacesia goes offshore. The pebbles stop at the waterline: the seabed under them is sand. Waves get to about 2 m on nothing more than moderate wind.
Push past about 25 knots and the sea turns confused, with a rock arm sitting downwind of the launch to make that worse. That combination keeps it off the beginner list until a local school confirms otherwise.
The windier part of the year runs 1 November to 16 April, February being the windiest month by average hourly wind speed, but no kite season or set of best months has been published for this beach. Tides, currents, rescue and the exact bathing-season access are all unconfirmed. Parking is on the lungomare.

Typical strength

No normal range has been published, only a threshold: above about 25 kt the sea becomes confused.

The quiver, in words

No local quiver has been published. Indicative only, for a 75-85 kg rider: 9-12 m covers the useful band, and once it goes past about 25 kt the sea turns confused and the sensible answer is a smaller kite or no session at all.The regional station at Vasto averages 4 kt over the year, so the strong days are occasional.

Direction to shore

The coast runs northwest to southeast and the beach faces about northeast, so a bora or tramontana lands onshore, a northwesterly runs along the beach, and anything from west through southwest blows offshore. That geometry is why this becomes the option when Fossacesia turns too offshore. Derived from the coastline, not from a beach survey.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

The water

Type

sea

Standing depth

The seabed is sand and shelves gently away from the shore, so on a calm day the shallow water reaches a fair way out. No measured depth or wading distance has been published, and with 2 m waves arriving on moderate wind the shelf is not a place to stand around.

Tides

Small semidiurnal tides. The nearest station on this coast, Termoli, runs early-September highs near 0.35 m against lows near 0.09 m, a range of roughly 25-35 cm, which does not change the launch.

Temperature

25.6°C summer · 12.8°C winter

Wetsuit

Warm-water gear in summer, a full suit in winter. Casalbordino-Miracoli averages 78 F, about 25.6 C, in August and 55 F, about 12.8 C, in February.

Currents

The Sinello river mouth closes the beach at its southern end and puts its own outflow into the sea there. Semi-submerged breakwaters lie off the shore and break up what arrives. No current survey for the beach itself has been published.

Rescue

No organised rescue for kitesurfers is published. Sea emergencies go to the coast guard on 1530 or to 112. The beach mixes free stretches with a managed concession that has a bar and restaurant; whether any lifeguard covers the stretch used for launching is unconfirmed, and the rock arm downwind is the reason it matters.

Launch

Launch at Lido di Casalbordino with parking on the lungomare. Pebbles in places and fine golden sand in others, reportedly, so expect a mixed edge and bring booties. Under the water it is sand, shelving gently, with semi-submerged breakwaters offshore and the Sinello river mouth closing the beach to the south.Part of the beach is free and part is a managed concession with bar and restaurant.

  • confused sea above about 25 kt
  • waves up to about 2 m
  • exact authorized kite access unconfirmed for the bathing season
  • Semi-submerged breakwater reefs lying off the beach.

  • West through southwest winds are offshore here.

Rider tips

  • Work out why Fossacesia is offshore before you drive here, and check that the same direction lines up with the Casalbordino launch.
  • Keep the downwind rock arm in mind from the moment you launch; the confused sea above about 25 kt is what pushes you toward it.
  • Bring booties or old trainers for the pebble launch.
  • Ask locally about summer access, because no 2026 kite corridor has been confirmed for Lido di Casalbordino.
  • Park on the lungomare and rig there.
  • Bring booties or old trainers: the shoreline is stony in places even though the seabed is sand.
  • Look offshore before you ride: semi-submerged breakwaters sit off this beach and the Sinello river mouth marks its southern end.
  • West and southwest are offshore on this beach, so those are the days to go elsewhere.
