Kitesurfing in Quintana Roo

4 spots · 3 destinations · 18 schools

Four spots, and the wind direction picks the one.

Isla Blanca is the lagoon: waist- to hip-deep sand for kilometres north of Cancun, and the one stretch where a north wind comes onshore while it blows offshore down the rest of the Riviera Maya. Holbox rides Las Nubes behind its sandbar, kiting banned in front of the hotels and a USD 10 island bracelet in 2026. Tulum is open Caribbean chop at 12-20 knots, swimmers on the same water, no kite zone. Boca Paila is 14 km of dirt road inside Sian Ka'an for 300 square metres of hip-deep water, and crocodiles keep you out of the river mouth.

Quintana Roo holds 4 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 3 destinations. The season runs January to July. 3 of them suits beginners. 18 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Tulum.
