Kitesurfing in Basque Country

8 spots · 2 destinations · 1 schools

The Basque coast runs from Zurriola's expert-rated surf break in San Sebastian's Gros district to the sheltered Bahía de Txingudi at Hondarribia and the tide-swept Mundaka estuary at Laida, where sandbanks reshape the beach between low and high water.

Synoptic and mixed westerlies dominate, Ereaga and Gorliz-Plentzia offer the calmer bay options near Bilbao, and nothing here is rated for beginners — Getxo's crowds and Laida's currents keep it intermediate and up.

Basque Country holds 8 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 2 destinations. Riding here is mostly waves. The season runs April to October. 1 school operates in the region. The busiest areas are País Vasco — Ereaga to Bakio and Zarautz & Zurriola.
