Wind on the beach

• The riding area is on the Laguna Madre side, so the shore faces west.
• The dominant warm-season SSE and S flow is cross-offshore to offshore relative to that bank, which the shallow water forgives but beginners should not ignore.
• Frontal N and NE wind pushes onto the bay shore instead.

What the spot record warns about

• Extensive seagrass beds in parts of the Laguna Madre can foul boards/lines and make some areas uncomfortable to walk
• Vehicle access to the main North Flats lot has been restricted pending a local permitting process - check current access before planning a trip
• Reach the flats via pedestrian dune paths where vehicle access is closed
• As of 2026, vehicle access to the traditional North Flats area is restricted; expect walking access through dunes unless a local update says otherwise.
• Private/leased land and evolving city venue construction/permitting can change practical access quickly; verify with local shops or SPI Windsurfing & Kiteboarding Association before driving to the flats.
• Seagrass beds are extensive in Laguna Madre and can catch fins, foils and lines; avoid trampling or scarring seagrass.
