North Flats

North Flats is a large, smooth flatwater lagoon area on the Laguna Madre side of South Padre Island, historically managed with a membership-style access arrangement through the SPI Windsurfing & Kiteboarding Association. It has long been prized by locals for expansive, wind-friendly flat water away from the busier in-town beaches. As of the most recent local reporting, vehicle access to the main lot has been restricted pending a permitting process, with riders instead reaching adjoining sections known locally as "Outlaw Flats" and "Kite Ranch" via pedestrian paths through the dunes.

Monthly wind statistics

Station: South Padre Island, TX (Weatherspark (NASA MERRA-2 reanalysis), ~0 km) — Windfinder's south_padre_island windstatistics page exists but is JS-rendered (no numbers in static HTML) and the live site 429'd on every fetch attempt (stats API needs an undisclosed auth token). Used Weatherspark MERRA-2 reanalysis for South Padre Island as fallback, which covers Isla Blanca Park / North Flats / South Flats equally well since they are all within ~5km on the same barrier island. No Beaufort-probability metric available from this source.
