The spot

The beach and wind

Estagnots is the kite beach for Seignosse, on the boundary with Hossegor, and it is open Atlantic: moving sandbars, shorebreak, baines, a lateral current that runs all summer. The wind that works is a north to north-west thermal arriving around 16:00-17:00, often light at 10-18 kt, so this is a big-kite and strapless beach rather than a powered one.

Hazards and zoning

There is no standing area to fall back on. Anything that goes wrong is an open-ocean self-rescue, and the lifeguards watch the flagged bathing zone, not the kite corridor beside it. The zoning is the part visitors get wrong: in 2026 Estagnots is the only Seignosse beach where kitesurfing is allowed, in the signed non-regulated zone next to the supervised area, and you keep off the blue-flag bathing zones and never ride upwind of them.

Skill level and parking

Competent wave and strapless riders will enjoy it; a beginner should be here with a school, on a small-swell day, or not at all. Park behind the dune at Estagnots and come early in July and August, when the car park saturates.

The municipal lifeguard post on the beach, +33 5 58 43 31 73, is the only cover, and only inside the 2026 supervised season: 12:30-18:30 from 13 June to 3 July and from 31 August to 13 September, 11:00-19:00 from 4 July to 30 August.

It watches the flagged bathing zone, not the kite corridor beside it.

No kite-specific boat or radio watch exists.

Airport

Biarritz Pays Basque (BIQ) is the nearest at about 45 km. Bordeaux, Pau or San Sebastian also work, depending on the route.

By car, park at the Estagnots beach car park behind the dune. By train, the nearest TGV stations are Bayonne and Dax, with bus line 517 between Dax and Bayonne serving Seignosse and Seignosse Ocean; the TER station at Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse is 9 km from Seignosse Bourg and connects only on line 1B.

Transfer

About 40 minutes by car from Biarritz Airport to the Hossegor and Seignosse area. By bus from BIQ to Seignosse Ocean, reportedly 1h34-1h43, though schedules vary.
