North East Point sits on the north-east coast of Mahé, also written Anse Nord d'Est, and it is a real spot with thin documentation behind it. Intermediate and expert wave riders only. The season is the South East Trade Winds, May to September: the trades build through June, turn roughest around August, then ease off.
The beach faces north-east, so the SE trades arrive broadly cross-shore rather than straight in. Expect small-to-medium reef waves and chop close to shore, coral and rocks on the inside, sea urchins, and currents that get reported without anyone describing them. High tide is the one to aim for.
The wider Anse Nord d'Est coast is a two-kilometre run of small beaches with parking and a bus stop, but the kite launch itself is a short strip of sand with trees right behind it. Nobody has confirmed a rescue service, a zoning rule or a school working from this beach as of 2026.

Character

trade

fills in: Trade wind, not thermal. It blows through the night and there is no daily fill-in to wait for, so morning and afternoon both go. No hour-by-hour record exists for this beach.

Typical strength

10-22 kt through the SE trade season, with 14-25 kt days reported.

This is trade wind, not thermal: May builds, June steadies, July-August can be very windy and rough, September eases. Reliability is not guaranteed, and the Seychelles wind is reportedly light and uncertain on plenty of days.
The Southeast Trades set in during May, are established by June, approach their peak in July and peak in August with rough seas, then decline in September. May-September is the window given for North East Point; for Seychelles as a whole the tighter kite-trip window is July-September.

Thermal or synoptic

synoptic

The quiver, in words

Mostly 10 m and 12 m in the SE trades, with 8 m on the stronger days. The light-wind reports are the reason to bring the bigger sizes.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

Not a stand-up spot. The water goes deep in places close to the beach, and children and weak swimmers are told to stay out of it. What is shallow here is reef with urchins in it, not a sandy flat you can put your feet down on.No depth has been measured for the riding area.

Tides

High tide is the one to aim for, and the table to read is Victoria's, 6 km away. The range is small, around a metre: a high near 1.2 m against a low near 0.3 m on an ordinary day. So the reef never uncovers dramatically, but low water puts you much closer to it.

Temperature

28.5°C summer · 26.7°C winter

Wetsuit

Boardshorts/rash vest; Mahé water stays warm year-round, with a rash vest enough at 27 C.

Currents

Currents are a known hazard and nobody has mapped them here. What is documented for the islands generally is that beaches turn dangerous by season, the east coast during the May-to-September south-east winds, which is exactly the kite window, and that rip currents form on exposed beaches whenever the sea is rough.Treat a hard trade-wind day as a rip day and stay upwind of your exit.

27–31°C water
Open ocean over reef, small-to-medium waves. Anse Nord d'Est runs choppier and deeper than most Seychelles bays, with high, choppy water on a normal tide. The break is exposed and the swell that matters comes from the ESE.

Your level

not for beginners hereintermediateadvanced
Intermediate and expert, rated intermediate alone in places. Nothing here points to beginner lessons: open ocean, reef, current, and deeper choppier water than the sheltered bays.

The scene

What riders come here for

wave ridingsurfboardopen-ocean freeride
Almost nobody in the water, and the break rarely gets crowded. The wider Anse Nord d'Est sand is moderately popular with beach users, so expect company near the access points and none once you are out.

Rescue

No lifeguard, no rescue boat, no kite centre on the sand. Lifeguards in Seychelles cover a handful of popular beaches and this is not one of them.
Search and rescue at sea belongs to the Seychelles Coast Guard; the general emergency numbers are 112 and 999, police 133, ambulance 151, and the police line for reporting an incident is +248 428 8000. Plan on self-rescue and leave someone on the beach.

Launch

A small sandy launch on the North East Point / Anse Nord d'Est shore, close to the coastal road, with public parking and a bus stop. Trees sit right behind the sand and the strip you can rig on is short.

Rules & access
No kitesurf-specific rule for this beach was found as of 2026. The national frame is the Beach Control Regulations, S.I. 77 of 1978 in the 1991 revised edition, which name pleasure boats, water-skiing and boat-towed parascending but never kites: they define the restricted zone as the water within 400 feet of the shoreline, set hours of darkness at 18:30 to 06:30, and ban water-skiing and parascending inside those hours.
No district, hotel or beach-management restriction on kiting at Anse Nord d'Est was found for 2026.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Ride this as a wave spot for confident riders; take a beginner to Anse aux Pins or another school beach instead.
  • Read the tide off Victoria, 6 km away, and aim for high water, the only tide guidance anyone gives for this beach.
  • Walk the reef, the rocks and the tree line before you pump; the usable sand is short.
  • Pack a surfboard and a big kite; the trades here run from light and uncertain to 14-25 kt days.
  • Ask Kite Seychelles or Surf House Seychelles about current rules and rescue cover before you launch; neither lists this beach.
  • Put 112 and the police line +248 428 8000 in your phone before you drive out. Nobody is watching this beach.
